An accomplished painter, author, teacher, and leading contemporary textile designer, Kaffe Fassett (rhymes with Safe Asset) is an American artist who is best known for his colorful designs in the decorative arts — needlepoint, patchwork, knitting, painting and ceramics.

To Boldly Go

With his unique sense of color and drive to create, combined with his desire to encourage others, Kaffe has developed a reputation as a guru in the world of color and textiles.

"anything worth doing is worth overdoing"

Kaffe's philosophy is to use many fabrics that are closely toned but not perfect matches to create interest in his quilts. In this short 5-minute video, Quilt Chemistry and Geometry, Kaffe shares his process for designing and balancing colors.

Some of Kaffe's accomplishments include:

  • written books for designs in quilting, knitting, and mosaics
  • primary knitwear designer for Rowan Yarns
  • designer of machine embroidery designs for Husqvarna Viking
  • worked with weavers in India, Guatemala and South Africa to create designs that would be more marketable in the West
